In order to become an ISA Certified Arborist certain criteria has to be met.  In order to be eligible for testing and certification, ISA requires a minimum of 3 years full time experience in arboriculture, a two year degree in arboriculture and two years of practical experience or a four year degree in a related field and one year of practical experience. 

 Once the criteria is met and the extensive test is passed, certification is given for a period of three years.   In order to maintain and renew certification, 30 CEUs must be accumulated during initial certification.  Continuing education credits are further required  to keep certification current.
